These creatures are a massive threat to New Zealand and the amazing flora and fauna we have in our country and even if it isn’t obvious they have a huge effect on our economy and our way of life. Some of the best ways to make your home less inviting to rats are as follows:
Don’t leave to much rubbish around your property outside, small amounts is fine but when it builds up it can provide good habitats for rats.
On the inside is important too, any food wastage needs to removed on a regular basis to avoid rats in the area being attracted inside.
If you have fruit and veges growing outside make sure you are gathering the produce and either using it or throwing it away, it will become a food source if left alone and will also become an attractant if left on the ground to rot.
Make sure trees are not touching your roof or guttering as it provides access.
Any pipes of cables that run from the interior to exterior of your house may have gaps around the holes and will need to be sealed.
