These creatures are a massive threat to New Zealand and the amazing flora and fauna we have in our country and even if it isn’t obvious they have a huge effect on our economy and our way of life. Some of the best ways to make your home less inviting to rats are as follows:

• Don’t leave to much rubbish around your property outside, small amounts is fine but when it builds up it can provide good habitats for rats.
• On the inside is important too, any food wastage needs to removed on a regular basis to avoid rats in the area being attracted inside.
• If you have fruit and veges growing outside make sure you are gathering the produce and either using it or throwing it away, it will become a food source if left alone and will also become an attractant if left on the ground to rot.
• Make sure trees are not touching your roof or guttering as it provides access.
• Any pipes of cables that run from the interior to exterior of your house may have gaps around the holes and will need to be sealed.
